Hello from the office of the parish nurse. Most of you received this definition of my job in the parish bulletin this past Sunday. I will be posting most of my information onto this website from now on. My number is 542-0321, ext. 113. Please call if you have any questions for me about a problem you want help with or about what I do. I look forward to hearing from you.

Parish Nurse Ministry

My name is Diedra Hoyt. I am the Saint Frances Xavier Parish Health and Faith Ministry director. I am an RN and a Nurse Practitioner and have been involved in nursing for 33 years. My job at our parish is to facilitate and promote health and wellbeing of individuals by implementing health promotion and disease prevention practices within the context of our faith. As Christians, we are to see health as a God-given gift. Our church naturally promotes health by encouraging prayer, music, fellowship, and assisting individuals in need.

Simply put, Iam here for our parishioners to educate on health matters and community health concerns. To provide referrals when requested to local resources, to health providers and to programs of specific benefit to an individual. Lastly, my job is to facilitate and advocate for you in health matters by finding resources to help you to become informed or find answers to your health related questions.

In addition there are several programs in place that provide comfort and help to our parishioners:

Ministers of Care who provide Eucharist to the homebound.

The grief ministry-providing resources for those suffering the loss of a loved one.

Visits to hospitalized parishioners.

Mary Martha Ministry-these women (angels) make prayer shawls for those who are ill.

Blood pressure checks after Mass.

Tai Chi exercise classes

So if you are looking for a support group, need a question answered or a referral, I’ll do my best to help get you the information you need so that you can make informed decisions. I do not have all the answers by any means, but I will do my best to research the topic to get you the information you need. If you have an idea for a class or a social gathering (like a seniors lunch or cards) I’ll do my best to organize these activities.

I have posted upcoming community activities and announcements in the front foyer of the church. I will also post these activities and information on the St. Frances Xavier website.

If you would like to contact me please call 542-0321, ext. 113. If Iam not there, please leave me a message and I will return your call as soon as possible. All communication between us will be confidential as in all medical communications unless you give or request information to be given or shared with someone of your choosing.
